Resting in God's Peace (March 17, 2020)

"He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul" Psalm 23:2, 3

I remember being a new Christian and learning some of the most common passages of Scripture, including Psalm 91 and Psalm 23.  I memorized Psalm 23 & parts of Psalm 91 and they have been coming to my remembrance over the past week.

We were ordered yesterday by our gov’t to stay in place at home for the next 3 weeks.  We are being forced to stay home, obviously for good reason. It reminds me of Psalm 23:2, “He makes me to lie down in green pastures.”

The Good Shepherd knows His sheep & knows when they need rest.  He will cause us to lie down.  We can lie down on our own or we can be made to lie down.  I don’t believe God sent the Coronavirus, but I believe He can redeem any situation & use it for His Glory, including blessing His people with rest & new opportunities to minister to a fearful world.

We lead such busy lives and have constant activity; it can seem that there isn’t any time to rest.  We need time to rest so that we can be renewed and recharged to continue on our journey.  We need time to meditate, reflect and be restored so that we can keep fighting the good fight.  We need rest and to take time to hear from God.

Now would be a good time to pray and ask God how to best steward this time that we are being “ordered to stay home” or “lie down.”  This would be a good time to pray more, read your Bible, read books, listen to teachings & preaching message on YouTube or Podcasts, or listen to audiobooks, journaling, exercise, spring cleaning, gardening, try new recipes, puzzles, crossword puzzles, start that new hobby, blog or book you’ve been thinking about.  Start drafting that business plan, nonprofit plan or ministry plan, do the research to complete that dream that God placed on your heart.  Of course, make time to get the physical, emotional and spiritual rest that you need.  The possibilities are endless.

I personally will be taking more time to pray for our church family & seek ways to feed & care for the beautiful flock God has entrusted to me.  I also want to read more.  I will listen for God’s direction going forward.  It is an exciting time for me because it is forcing us to find new creative & innovate ways to spread the gospel, feed the flock & reach those who feel lonely, isolated and/or fearful.

My precious Templo family, I am dedicated to keeping us pressing in & pursuing God together.  To continue to grow in the grace & knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.God is in Control! He is with us & For us!  He is our Protector & Provider!  He will see us through

Much Blessings & Love, Amazingly Graced, Your Servant,

Pastor John Masis
